Gravitate: Touching Music with Oculus Rift

Have you ever found yourself moving your hands like an orchestra conductor?

Or playing air guitar to an imagined stadium crowd? Sure, everyone else might look at you like youโ€™re insane, but in your head youโ€™re a star. Ethno Tekh, a company whose name literally means The Culture of Technology, is looking to take that feeling one step further with their creation, Gravitate. Using the potent combination of Oculus Rift and Microsoft Kinect, Gravitate allows you to create music using simple hand motions in combination with virtual abstract objects you control. At present, there are four different instruments to choose from, allowing you to customize your experience and allow the freedom of creativity to take over by becoming an extension of your hand. There are no objectives at this point beyond your own sense of self-fulfillment. And while those watching you might still think you look like a monkey swatting an angry bee, it wonโ€™t matter as the virtual world fills your vision, via the Oculus Right, allowing for total immersion. And if you start to feel lonely, donโ€™t worry!
Gravitate allows for multiple participants, allowing them to work together creatively to make music together. Interested? If you happen to be near Melbourne, Austrailia, you can check it out for yourself starting Nov 20th for 4 weeks, where Ethno Tekh is inviting the public to play their new creation.

Celebratory air guitar solo, anyone?
